Bassmasters of North Alabama and the Bassmaster Dixie Duel Tournament
Wheeler Lake, Ingalls Harbor, April 2-5, 2009
Bassmasters of North Alabama has always supported the efforts and activities of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, the Bass Federation Nation, and the Alabama B.A.S.S. Federation Nation. Decatur and Wheeler Lake in North Alabama draws a number of major tournament events, especially since the completion of the world class Ingalls Harbor launch and staging complex. Bassmasters of North Alabama is part of the team, including the Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department, in attracting and hosting major tournaments to the area such as the Bassmaster Elite Series, Bassmaster Southern Open Tournaments, ABFN State and Regional Tournament, Junior Bassmaster State Championships, and other tournament activities.
Not only does BMNA assist in the planning for these events, our members are heavily involved in the work of producing the tournaments through our volunteer workers, camera boat operators, and technical assistance. We have developed personal and working relationships with tournament managers such as Chuck Harbin, Chris Bowes, and John Stewart of B.A.S.S. and Anthony Bartkowski - B.A.S.S. Director of Communications, and have assisted ESPN in securing on-line and tournament video of the events for later television program scheduling. In working these events, several of our members have developed personal relationships with some of the PROS like Kevin Langill, Randy Howell, and Tim Horton.
We work with the local media - Channel 31, Decatur Daily, and Juergen Beck of Freedom Light Productions and others - as well as BASS Times and other major publications to get the story out about Decatur, Wheeler Lake, and our Mountain Lakes Region.
By our involvement in these major bass fishing events, our members have a ton of fun and at the same time we contribute back to our community endeavors of improving the economic development for our area and assisting the organizations that drive our sport.
